Intermittent fasting is one of most trendiest or most talked about ways to lose weight. It is not a diet but an eating pattern which talks about skipping a meal in order to keep the body in a fasted state for atleast 14 hours or more. By doing so, body starts to break down the stored fats in order to produce energy through a process called Ketosis. There have been proven documented benefits of fasting on reduction in inflammation, diabetes, aging and cancer. See references for more detail.

Practicality:
1. Many people can't control hunger. When you go on intermittent fasting, initial days will be difficult. But our body is quite smart and will quickly adapt to it, usually in a week or two.
2. Our bodily signal for hunger and thirst are very similar. Most of the times, we think we are hungry but we actually are thirsty. So, try and hydrate during the fast. Keep drinking water.
3. Coffee and Tea are hunger suppressants. If you don't include milk and sugar, these two beverages are allowed in a fast. You can use these to your advantage by having tea or coffee 30 mins after your big meal.
4. Do consult with your doctor before going on a strict intermittent fasting if you are an expectant mother or breastfeeding or suffering from diabetes, heart disease type chronic illnesses.
